I was married to Bob Fox who was a 1960 Woodward alum. Unfortunately, he died at 49.
In 1993 I opened China/Glass & Gifts, a retail store specializing in overstocked sets of china, crystal stemware and hollowware. After Bob's death, I felt there was no reason for me to stay in Cin'ti with its lack of sun and bone chilling winters. As my chidren lived all over the U.S. and I am an avid gardener, I decided to move to Florida's east coast and enjoy the warmth of the daily sun .
In 1999 I quickly aquired the directorship of the Klein Literacy Program which was a small program assisting in one public elementary school with a handful of volunteers. Our program has developed into the largest elementary school literacy program in the state of FL. Our school distict covers 2,300 square miles and assists more than 3,000 students on a one to one basis, in 50 public elementary schools. Annually, I recieve our students' comparative reading scores, which show marked improvements in their reading abilities of 1 1/2 to-3 years growth with some reading above grade level.
We have been the recipient of numerous awards throughout the years I have been director. The prestigious "Hall of Fame" award was presented to us 2009. In the district's 100 years, only 5 businesses have recieved this award and ours is the only not-for-profit recipient.
I cannot express how much I love our literacy program and am grateful to have had the opportunity to see it advance to the pillar that it has become, buttttttt ----------There are new adventures ahead for me and I don't know what they are yet, so I have decided to retire at the end of this fiscal year. I am planning to attend the reunion in Sept. and hope to see y'all there.
