WAHLERT, Mel, D. devoted husband of Linda Wahlert (nee Middendorf). Beloved father of Jennifer Leonardi, Matt, Melissa and Heather Wahlert. Adored grandfather of Tony, Chelsea, Alyssa and Grace Leonardi and great grandfather of David Leonardi. Cherished partner of Turnbull - Wahlert Companies. Preceeded in death by his parents Harry and Hazel Wahlert. Passed away suddenly on Friday, December 24, 2010 at 67 years of age. Visitation and Celebration of life on Wednesday [Dec. 29, 2010] at MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Bridgetown Rd., from 10:00AM until time of service at 12:30PM. Mel and I were dear friends from our days at Hartwell Elementary. He was planning on attending the 50th, but wouldn't let me send along his contact info, preferring to just show up. We shared birthday's all our lives, Mel being 36 hours older than me.
He was still going strong, with no thought of retiring. We visited whenever I was in town and toured his many construction projects. Mel, Joe Boone and I lived close by, and spent all our summers together. To lose both in the same year is heartbreaking.
