Richard Morgan passed away August 29, 2023.

The City of Reading community suffered a tremendous loss this week when Richard Morgan, age 80, passed away on August 28, 2023. Richard was an amazing family man and friend who gave countless hours in service to others.

Richard was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jim and Loraine Morgan on Valentine’s Day 1943.

Richard was married to Jane Morgan (Mahan) on September 21, 1968.  They were blessed with daughter Abby Lynn Morgan on March 27, 1971.

Richard is survived by wife, Jane, daughter, Abby, sister, Vivian Morgan, and godson, Todd Kahle.  Richard’s dear family also includes:  Gail and Harry Zimmer, Scott, Rhonda, Riley and Carlee Mahan, Lisa, Bronson, and Colton Lakes, Shelley Mahan, Mary Gillette, and Julia Saylor, and Bev, Larissa, Luke, Noah, and Julia Kahle.

He was preceded in death by parents Loriane and Jim Morgan, sister, Janet Morgan, and best friend, Bob Kahle.

Richard graduated from Woodward High School in 1961.  He attended the University of Cincinnati from 1961 – 1965 where he served as a manager of both the football and basketball teams.  He then went on to work as equipment manager for the Cincinnati Royals.

Richard had an interesting work career starting as the assistant manager at Cincinnati Gardens then as Director of Operations at Riverfront Coliseum.  He then worked at Covington Landing as Facilities Manager.  He finished his career working for the Castellini Company as Human Resources Director for Club Chef. 

Richard is probably best known for being the Voice of the Blue Devils for the past 38 years having announced countless football, basketball, and volleyball games for Reading High School.  His legacy will carry on in the lives of all the people he touched.

Public Viewing will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Reading Community City Schools, 810 E. Columbia Avenue with a service immediately following at noon. Linda McClanahan from Sycamore Presbyterian Church will be officiating. A burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens at 1:00 pm at 2145 Compton Road.

Everyone is encouraged to wear Reading Blue Devil Spirit Wear or Blue and White.

In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to the Reading Community Schools Athletic Department, 810 E. Columbia Ave, Reading, OH 4521.

I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. Rich an I were good friends in high school and college. He always had a great, positive personality.

My best wishes to Jane and family in this very difficult time.

Janey, I'm so sorry to hear about Richard. I was looking forward to seeing you both at the reunion. He was as important to our football success as any of our players and will be missed greatly.

I knew Richard, of course, at Woodwsrd and  all the way back to elementaey school at Bond Hill. I still remember that he was a funny guy and good friend. I got to see him again after mamy years at the last reunion. My condolences to his family.
